You are irreplaceable. The words of my mouth are not enough to say it all. What do I have to say? Is it the care? Is it the love? You taught me how to forgive, even when I'm hurt. You taught me how to forgive easily, even when I'm angry. You told me you always say a word that say, "Obeh erirhin ehyeren" meaning “Destiny”. Life is destiny. I should learn how to let go. A Tribute to Papa Okotie Ajerore Emmanuel - Delivered with love by his children.

Every morning of our lives, before the house had fully woken and before the day had asked anything of him, our father was already on his knees. We would hear it before we saw it — the low, steady sound of his voice moving through Psalm 16. "Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust... The lines fell on me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage." We did not know then that we were listening to a man rehearsing his own ending. We only knew that it was the sound of home.

A Simple Man, A Rich Life:
Papa Okotie Ajerore Emmanuel never needed much to be great. He wore his greatness quietly — in a firm handshake, a modest table, a word kept, a debt honored. He taught us, without ever making a lesson of it, that a man's worth is not measured by what surrounds him but by what he carries inside him. He carried faith. He carried discipline. He carried a peace that nothing in this world could fully take from him. His was a life of fulfillment laced in contentment — not because life spared him its trials, but because he had decided, long before we were born, what kind of man he intended to be inside those trials.

Two Words That Became a Compass:
If our father left us one inheritance greater than any other, it is two words he pressed into our hearts so often that we no longer remember a time before we knew them: Know Thy Self. He said it when we were proud, and he said it when we were afraid. He said it when the world tried to tell us who we were, and he said it when we tried to tell ourselves less than the truth. Know Thy Self was never a lecture. It was a lamp. He handed it to each of us and trusted that we would find our own way by its light.

A Strength We Were Never Meant to See:
There were hardships. There always are. But our father made a quiet, deliberate choice that we would only ever come to understand as adults: he refused to let the weight of his struggles bend the shape of our childhood. Whatever the world threw at him — and it threw plenty — he absorbed it standing up, and he set it down before he walked through our door. He looked beyond his own shortcomings and beyond every obstacle placed in his path, not because they did not hurt, but because he had decided we deserved a father who did not hand his burdens down to his children. That, too, was a form of love — perhaps the quietest and the strongest form there is.

A Father to More Than His Own:
Ours was not an ordinary house, and his was not an ordinary kind of love. He built everything around unity and common purpose, and he had a way of parenting that dissolved the walls other fathers built. Our friends were never simply our friends — they were his. He welcomed them at his table, corrected them when they strayed, celebrated them when they succeeded, and claimed them, without ever asking permission, as his own. In this way his fatherhood multiplied far beyond the children who carried his name. His philanthropy was not grand gestures for an audience; it was a steady, unglamorous generosity — a hand extended, a door left open, a name never withheld from anyone who needed it spoken with kindness.

His Life, Written in Ours:
If anyone wishes to know who Papa Okotie Ajerore Emmanuel truly was, they need not search for a portrait or a plaque. They need only look at his children. His humility lives in us. His resilience lives in us. His Christian faith, worn so naturally it never needed announcing, lives in us. Everywhere his children stand today, he is standing there too — in our patience, in our fairness, in the way we welcome others without asking what they can offer us in return. He built no monument, because he built something better. He built people.

A Prayer, Fulfilled:
On his final days, surrounded by the very children he had spent a lifetime shaping, we understood at last what his morning prayer had always meant. Psalm 16 does not end in fear. It ends in trust — "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy." The God he greeted every sunrise of his life met him in the end exactly where he had asked to be met — surrounded by his own, in peace, in faith, in fulness. His last moments were not a departure into the unknown. They were the answer to a prayer he had prayed ten thousand mornings before he ever needed it answered.

Until We Meet Again:
We do not say goodbye to our father as though this is the end of him, because we do not believe that it is. By the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we hold to the certainty that we will meet again in the glory of God — that this parting is only a distance measured in time, not in love. And until that day, we make him this promise: his children will remain what he built us to be. United. Purposeful. Unafraid of hardship and unwilling to let it define us. We will carry his name the way he carried his faith — quietly, steadily, and without apology. We will make him proud. We will make our mother proud. And every morning, in one way or another, some of us will still be reciting his psalm.

Rest well, Papa. Fulness of joy awaits you, and we will not be far behind.

To my sweet, lovely father and mother,

It crushes my heart to do life without you physically present. I know I left home early, but you never allowed me to feel the distance between us. You constantly called to check on me, to make sure I was okay, and to remind me that I was always in your heart. It breaks my heart knowing that I no longer have those calls to look forward to.

I miss the food you do cook for you. I miss caring for you. I miss the little moments we shared, and most of all, I miss having my amazing father here with me. I will forever cherish every moment I had with you and hold your smile so close to my heart.

You were always the kind of father who never wanted his children or grandchildren to experience pain. You worked so hard to keep our family together, always putting everyone before yourself. You loved us deeply, protected us fiercely, and covered us constantly in your prayers.

Even though you are no longer here physically, I know the love you gave us will continue to live within us. Your sacrifices, your kindness, your strength, and your prayers will forever be a part of who we are.

Thank you for being my father and my mother. Thank you for loving us the way you did. We wish we could have more time with you, more conversations, more meals, and more ordinary days that we never knew would one day become memories we would treasure so deeply.

We miss you more than words can ever explain, Mommy. We'll carry you in our hearts, and love for the rest of our lives.

We pay tribute to a remarkable father, Pa’ Okotie, whose warmth, kindness, and good heart will always remain in our memories.

We remember with fondness the times we visited him in the village. He always welcomed us warmly and made us feel like family. His kindness and hospitality were genuine, and every moment spent with him was special. He was a caring man, a man of his word, and someone whose good heart touched those around him.

We are grateful for the beautiful memories we shared with him and will always cherish them. Though his passing has brought sadness to our hearts, we take comfort in knowing that his life was a blessing to us and that he will continue to live in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.

Rest peacefully, Pa’ Okotie. You will be greatly missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.

I remember grandpa as a funny man, every time we came from the duck pond my dad would call and he would tell us a story before we leave.
My favorite story was about the race between the dog and the tortoise,
we would always laugh when he was telling the stories. I know that every time he finished, he would always be smiling behind the screen. Heaven called grandpa, and he answered. My sweet Grandpa is at home safely with God Almighty in heaven.

"Joyful, Strong, Funny"

Papa raised a lineage of remarkable children, and Mark‑Kpobor, aka Emperor, stands proudly among them. Although I did not have a personal relationship with Papa, his kindness, dignity, and the strength of his character are clearly reflected in his children. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped.

It is with a heavy heart that I join my dear friend Mark and his family in mourning the passing of your beloved father.

Although I never had the privilege of meeting Papa Okotie physically, I have come to know a little about the great father he was through the love, respect, and memories shared by his children. Sometimes, we do not have to meet someone personally to appreciate the impact they had on the lives of those around them.

A father’s influence is often reflected in the character, values, and strength of his children.

To my dear friend, please know that you are not alone in this season of grief. May God strengthen you, comfort you, and give you and your family the grace to endure this painful loss.

Though I never met your father personally, I honour his memory today and acknowledge the life he lived, the family he built, and the legacy he left behind.

May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant the entire family comfort, strength, and peace.

Papa Okotie, I will always remember you for the wonderful words of wisdom you used to teach us. When I was introduced to the family in 2001 through your son Mark, you took me in as your own son. Little wonder why I refer to you as my dad in Warri. May God grant you eternal rest, dad in Warri.
